Remembrances of My Carlisle Days

Roger Bishop, Carlisle High School Class of 1963, has written and published the book “Remembrances of My Carlisle Days” chronicling his five years as a teenager in Carlisle. It's a delightful and humorous look at the true adventures of him and his friends, as they struggled through their teenage years. It's virtually dripping with the nostalgia of life in small town America fifty years ago. You will enjoy reading this immensely, whether you know the author or not.  It is wonderfully suited for gift giving as well, and, to be sure, it is PG rated.

The Redneck Chronicles

Dr. Jim Burleson was raised on a farm north of Carlisle in the Wattensaw community, named for the nearby bayou. He was one of three children. The family raised cattle, pigs, cotton and soybeans. He and his brother Stan began hunting and fishing at a very early age. Table fare often consisted of fish, venison, duck or swamp rabbit plus whatever came from the family garden.

Parents Luella and James Roy strongly advocated scholastic achievement and all three children excelled academically. Dr. Burleson attended grades 2-12 in the Carlisle School system and graduated with the Class of 1966. He earned scholarships to UCA in Conway, then known as the State College of Arkansas. His dental degree was earned at the University of Tennessee College of Dentistry. Upon graduation, he was named to the Dean Society and Omicron Kappa Upsilon - the two highest academic awards.

Jim is married to Melba Schafer Burleson, CHS Class of 1969, and lives in Cabot. They have two children, Mike and Brad.
